Today's Composers Datebook entry features Vincent Persichetti (1915-1987), and his work Divertimento. Persichetti was a prolific writer of wind music, and Divertimento has been a staple in the band repertoire for decades since its premier with the Goldman band in 1950. It is wildly popular with high school and college ensembles. Persichetti's music, along with that of William Shuman, Peter Mennin and others of the "New York School" played an important role in the development of wind literature during the middle part of the last century.
Here is the entry. Enjoy!
